I’ve installed only one ECU, so I’m no expert, but I am an electrical engineer. If I could share some of what I’ve learned over many years in the business and from installing a Haltech R3 in my car, here’s my recommendation: don’t change anything just yet.
From my EE background, I know it’s easy to overlook simple things during troubleshooting. Often, systems are left as received from the factory or set using rule-of-thumb methods. It’s best to set everything to spec and verify each setting. It’s tedious, but it gives you a known starting point. For instance, if you’re starting with low or even high fuel pressure, you probably won’t get correct fuel atomization. Is that a problem? I don't know but since I don't know, I'll set it as close to the 3 bar spec as possible.
From my one and only ECU install, I found it’s easy to make mistakes and miss them. For example, I wired my COP correctly, so you’d think my injection wiring was right too. Nope—I swapped left and right. No idea how I made such a silly mistake, but I did. I also found a couple of loose crimps during installation by pulling on each crimp as I assembled it.
Adding a new ECU with COP and a cam sensor adds complexity. If I were in your shoes, I’d focus on getting the car running correctly as it is before considering upgrades. Plenty of people run similar setups without problems.
