Michelin X tires were the tits in 1966 when I bought my ‘60 beetle, but there was no way I could afford a set. I bought a wrecked Karman Ghia for $300 that has nearly new Michelins on it, sold the engine, and sold the carcass to a scrap yard for $10 or $12. So I got free tires - while testing them out, I spun the car and bumped into a guard rail. Tires won’t make a VW handle like a Ferrari - lesson learned.

After I mangled my right front fender on the guard rail I primed the new one, but never got around to painting it. I found a toy VW that was close to the color of mine and primed its fender to match my car. My son thought it needed red and blue wheels and colored them in for me.
I never got it all off.
