I'm batting 50% (my fault). Years ago my wife was in California and had a health situation and I paid a medical facility for treatment with 2 credit cards, $25k and $12k. I don't want to get too detailed, but they were supposed to do something and they didn't. I asked for my money back and they said no. I contacted the agency that regulates their industry and got a very sympathetic caseworker. This outfit was well known as a bad actor. She said they were in permitting for an expansion, and she found some infractions that "could" delay the expansion if the agency wanted to hold their feet to the fire. This took six months. In the meantime, I was trying to get chargebacks from the credit card companies. They both said "no" of course, I got pissed, and canceled the account that had the $12k on it - big mistake. The other account was still open. The regulatory agency said something to the medical facility, I don't know what, but I can imagine. They wrote a credit for the $25k and would have written a credit for the $12k if I hadn't been so hasty.
