I keep on hearing about slow pitch on fishing forums and have watched a few videos, but have not dipped my toe into it yet. Very interested to hear what you find out and whether you end up enjoying it!

re "drifting a frozen squid across the tops of reefs is effective, but oddly boring" I hear you, for the fish I target most often (salmon) the most effective technique by far is trolling with your gear on a downrigger system. It works great, but you don't even have the rod in your hands until after you get a fish on... most of your time is spent just driving around and keeping an eye on the rod in the rod holder and hoping that something happens. I have been getting more into "mooching" which is a salmon technique where you have the boat drifting, rod in your hands, and you are moving a whole herring up and down the water column. It is not nearly as effective as trolling but there is just so much more satisfaction in taking a more "active" role in getting the fish on your line. So, I get it!
