That's quite a statement. Just because it's new doesn't mean that we don't still know most everything about it.

Let's consider some slack jawed yokel from Kentucky who has only ever seen Ford and Chevy cars, EVER, all of his life.
One day, someone drives a Porsche through town. Now, that slack jawed yokel doesn't know the name of it, he doesn't know what the engine looks like, he doesn't know what kind of sound or emissions it might make, he doesn't know if it has variants, he doesn't know where it came from, what kind of environment, he doesn't know how long it will last, how fast it goes, any of that.

But he knows it's a type of car, just like the Fords and Chevys. He knows it has 4 wheels, mostly moves forward, can turn and reverse and is meant to carry people around.

You're acting like he would not even recognize this new car as a car, and therefore would assume it was come completely new item never before seen.

Obviously I'm relating cars to comets
Why is it so hard for you to believe that scientists understand this thing 99% complete, and are simply learning and pointing out the differences from our normal local comets?
