Engine masters (Speed TV) spent an hour identified HP gains by switching to the higher viscosity - sort of counter intuitive .

He's got a video where they use a motor on a dyno and do a ton of runs, including, I believe through a few different viscosities. I think at one point, they are running the motor 2-3 qts low (on a deep sump oil pan) because they see a BIG reduction in power if they run the motor full.
