I just finished Paper Girl. The author, Beth Macy, is a journalist who grew up in Urbana. The book is about Urbana, a small town in Ohio and what is happening to our youth. It’s frightening, we are spiraling down as a population in alarming ways. Ironic that I live a few miles north of Middletown (Hillbilly Elegy’s location) and a few miles south of Urbana, where Paper Girl takes place, but the two books about SW Ohio couldn’t be more different. I know one of the business owners interviewed in the book, I need to get up there and see what he thinks of the portrayal of small town Ohio.
