When I saw the post title - "old car" - I was at least thinking of, say, the '70s. I got my first and only new car in 1993, and I just can't think of a 1992 anything as truly old. I am sure I will continue to insist on this 20 years from now. I've had that car for just about as long (32 1/2 years) as my grandmother drove her '53 Chevy (1953-86). Anything 1992 I'd get inspected at a local shop if I wasn't confident in what I knew about its condition, then just fly out, get in and drive. I've done long-distance fly-and-drives in my 911 (1980), my Saab (1985) and my BMW E12 (1978) and they were all great trips. That dirt road over the pass looks like it would be fun in the 911.
