The 4 speed wasn't exhausting at all. Actually, the opposite. Much less shifting, compared to a NA 911 5-speed. Mine shifted easier, with less effort, than my 915s, as well. Clutches were a little stiffer and obviously the steering was higher effort.
They just had a little firmer suspension. Fair-to lousy A/C, which sucked in some parts of the country.
Not much different than a 911 of the same period. It's just that these cars, compared to normal sedans, were just less comfortable overall.
