Happened to me one rainy night when I lived up in Nor Cal on a vineyard, only it wasn't a buck it was a fawn. I told the gal who hit it that I'd take care of it.
Got a hammer out of my tool box and used it. It's skull reminded me of an egg shell.
I'd have used it on that buck, or, use a tire iron.
Do you carry one of them in your car?
