My wife thinks this is OCD. I think it's just logical and efficient, and I think her problem is she just has no respect for tools.
I always put the kitchen knives back in specific slots, and when I use one, I use it for its intended purpose. To my mind, each knife has "it's" slot and needs to be put back in it.
She puts any knife in any open slot, and uses the first knife she grabs for whatever task she's up to. She'll spread butter or cut fruit with the bread knife - not a tragedy, but I have to wash the knife before I can use it to slice bread.
