On the trip I posted photos above from, I drove my Mini to Minneapolis, (had a nice ring to it), spur of the moment back in September. On the way back, I made it in 2 days of driving but had to pull over past Vegas for a nap on the side of the road. I was pretty knackered when I got home to L.A. I just wanted to get home.
That's almost exactly 2000 miles in 2 days. A lot of it was at over 100mph, through Nebraska and eastern CO. there is next to zero speed enforcement on the interstate and through Utah on the 70, you can go as fast as you want. Traffic is moving at 80+ so just use lane discipline and courtesy, I slow down to pass people and then back on the gas. On the 15 between Utah and Vegas, the speed limit is 80. Limit drops to 70 in CA but traffic is going 80. I've never been pulled over and done this drive more times than I can count. Use common sense and be safe, it depends on traffic density and what I'm driving, of course.
I recently drove my truck and trailer to Sacramento and back in one day with MMarsh to pick up a car, that was about 12 hours of driving and I was seeing monkeys sitting on the hood by the time we got back to his place. A little scary.
