Shaun, if its amicable I'd strongly advise they consider a mediator or the like. I'd even recommend joint representation but some atty's are reluctant. Unless there's a ton of money, counsel on both sides can just benefit counsel on both sides. There are certainly times when that's necessary, but with people that just want to part and still care about each other, mediation is much better plan.
