No need to feather the props if you can make it to a suitable lading area. Feathering the props on a dual engine failure would just help you glide further if needed. He was right over the highway so not needed.. That being said, I can almost guarantee that it didn't even cross his mind. You don't train for dual engine failures, only single, in which that procedure includes feathering the prop so the other working engine can sustain flight.
