Except it was dark so that field was not seen. In the daylight, probably much different outcome but in initial pilot training, we are taught to find a road first as its usually the safest place. Fields have lots of hazards. Usually not an interstate, but a country road. but that area is densely populated so it's best to land with the flow of traffic as opposed to landing on a road with a bunch of stopped cars at a red light.
