I have always been a bit of a daredevil in life and have skied since I was 5 years old. Unfortunately most of that has only been in Michigan where there are not really any long + steep runs to go stupid fast. The fastest I have ever gone on GS skis has likely been at Boyne Mountain in Michigan. There is a run there called Super Bowl which has a very steep upper section. Every time I go there I still make myself skate off the lift then drop in a tuck and go for max speed. About half way down the slope makes a somewhat rapid transition to being less steep. The speed up top does not scare me but when transitioning to the flatter section the g load is is pretty high and it takes some effort to to transition through it.... It feels like you are about to be smashed into the ground at that point of the run. I would not want to fall at that point.
That said.... I am guessing I have not been able to hit even about 55 mph. I cant imagine what 70+ mph feels like on skis.
Going there again for two ski trips this winter. At 59.5, I will still do my speed run at Superbowl and will be hitting the big jumps in the terrain park. Not sure when I will lose the nerve but I am guessing that is still some years away.
