PTA has been nominated for 11 Academy Awards and taken home none so far. I think he's overdue and will win several for this movie. I'm most rooting for Sean, although he's already won 2 out of 5. I suspect that some who don't like it are offended by the politics, but I don't think the movie is political, except to parody both extremes for their absurdity.
I only saw it at home, but I have a nice OLED, so it looks great. It was also filmed in Vistavision, which helps a lot. IMAX is good when I need that extra push over the cliff and need to go to eleven. I'm going to see The Odyssey on IMAX.
I watched The Master last night due to it's high regard and was disappointed. It was nice to see Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix do what they do best, though. I don't remember being wowed by Boogie Nights, but may catch it again. There Will Be Blood is a masterpiece in my mind. Paul Thomas Anderson is a terrific filmmaker, who oddly hasn't made much money for the studios, even though his movies have been expensive to make. He's broken through to the level where he can make what he wants, and that's a good thing.
