We use a baby gate in a hallway to keep the little one and our crazy toy Aussiedoodle separated and the gate we were using was a plastic adjustable one. My wife found a better metal swinging gate at Goodwill yesterday for 7 bucks and I installed it where the old gate would be. The new gate came with extra pieces for different widths, but our passageway is narrow enough that I didn't have to use them. It uses some adjustable spacers that have rubber ends, and as you screw them out, the gate is held fast and secured against a wall or door frame in this case. The adjuster parts have exposed threaded areas that are silver and I didn't like the look of them, so I took some new rubber fuel line hose and cut it to length, split the hose, and wrapped it around the exposed threaded silver part for a finished look. The gate works fantastic, no more sliding a plastic gate out of the way or stepping over it.
