100%. I think the E28 is the epitome of what German cars are about. The Benz's of that era are amazing as well, but the amt of engineering in the 140's and to some extent the 129's necessary to pull off what are now common tricks is somewhat frustrating. Having donor is likely necessary.
One example- on the v12's they made the fans and valve covers out of magnesium. We're now seeing issues with the fans fracturing at the base, no big deal if you catch it before it throws a blade thru the hood, but they're nla . Luckily you can swap in a normal v8 fan, fewer blades, but it works. But the valve covers are becoming porous with age, and no cure for that.
If you're really into these, I have a 140 v12 coupe (one of 200 in 96) on FBM. God, what a cesspool that place is. Should have put it on cars and bids.
