^^^^ In all my years in PCA, even when I had a 914, I never heard anything like that. Now my 85 gets a lot of attention from the guys with new Porsches.
I was the poor photographer, in a club with lots of oil business guys with lots more money than I did. During one of the oil booms, we had a llot of guys show up with gold chains in brand new Turbos. They all vanished during an oil bust. The core true enthusiasts were always there.
Back in late 70s and early 80s the leadership all had wifes that were big on wine and cheese parties. Gagh! That era soon ended and we had lots of other events.
Our dealership sponsors a "Motors in the morning" on the second Saturday of the month. Free coffee and donuts and a good turnout of lots of cars from several 911 GT3RS to the very oldest Porsche sold new in North America, a 1952 pre A Cabriolet. Even some 924s and lots of air cooled cars.
