I live in a hilly area, where these lights are really bad. As oncoming cars crest hills and such, even low beams will glare into eyes.
My wife works in a local family owned saw mill. One of the workers commutes by bicycle into work at before sunrise. He's a nice guy, but there are some cognitive issues(so he has no license and cannot drive). No joke- I about ran him over this a.m.
He was riding in my (oncoming) lane like a jogger would run. He had a light and everything- but- The oncoming HID traffic was so blinding, I couldn't see him.
For christmas, my wife got him a front/rear blinky, but even THAT got overwhelmed by the HID glare lights.
I need to go tell my wife about this, but he ain't gonna listen.
YES. It's a big damn problem, and I can't even get mad, b/c every freaking car has em' now. It's not even the aftermarket yahoos anymore.
I feel like I am being followed by "close encounters of the third kind" spaceships everytime one comes up behind me.
The other issue here is ride height. My 2005 station wagon is now a low rider compared to the average SUV. It's low status puts me right in the lights glare. You really need to be in an SUV or Truck to get above it. Also- I noticed all the recent cars have tinted windows/and glare reducing rear view mirrors to mitigate this ascending arms race of lumen(in)sanity. My 2005 has neither. I almost prefer the 911 b/c it sits so low, it's under the radar of these lightshows, and it at least has a tinted rear window.
I feel like the "old man yells at cloud" every time I drive because of these lights.
