Hi
Option one:
Follow John Walkers excellent photos.
Option two:
Drill thru the nut parallel to the alternator axis.
Open the hole with larger drill bits until it opens out the outer flat surface of the nut.
Split the nut with a cold chisel.
Undo nut.
Buy new nut and shim(s).
(Position hole so that nut and alternator threads are not drilled at final hole size.)
