You start by cutting off the taper square from the bit allowing it to chuck up in a drill. Big mistake. The threaded starter points on the bit draw it into the stock too fast and whammo, the drill twists with speed and power. I have a whole set of those old bits, all of which I've altered. They are usable if you cut the threaded points off and use the bit in a drill press. The quality of that old steel is excellent
