This photograph from the 1880s shows the Eureka Consolidated Mill at the height of hard rock mining in Eureka Nevada. Financed largely by San Francisco capital, the Eureka Consolidated Mining Company ranked among the district’s most productive operations.
Between 1873 and 1916, the company processed 550,455 tons of ore, returning $19,242,012 in metal values. The scale of the mill reflects the industrial investment and engineering required to keep Eureka’s mines operating for more than four decades.
