Yep, I was here then and had been for a year or two living in an apt. We didn't have any issues, and I didn't watch the news and the Internet wasn't what it is now. I saw ¼" - ½" of ice coating everything that had been exposed, trees, pine needles, chain-link fences, etc.... It was something that I'd never seen like that before (or since). I do remember that everything was shutdown. I don't think it's something that it's possible to prepare for. You can't prepare to have every tree coated in thousands of pounds of ice. If there are trees over/near power lines, you can't spend 24-48 hours cutting them down. By then it's too late.
