I resell my Celtics season tickets that I can't use through them (that's how the NBA does it), and with a good team, it is possible to make a profit. But good luck quantifying it.
I can select my selling price, but TM lists the ticket for even more. So they make profit there, then they skim more money off my selling price (I don't get it all). The 1099 they send me is for their sale price, which has nothing to do with the amount of money I receive. I have to maintain a spreadsheet with the ticket price (which varies every game), and what I received on the sale. I usually try to keep the price low enough so I don't make a profit to avoid all this, but I still need to maintain the records in case I'm ever audited.
At least the Celtics help with this too, they can send me all the sales records.
