The Woman’s Alpine events have been a real nail biter. Every one of them.

I think Shiffrin did poorly in the combined because she normally draws a low bib number (1-10) so gets a relatively fresh track to race on. In the combined, she was dead last and had to make the best of what was left of the course.

I think we saw a repeat of that today, that course held up OK but was badly rutted. Somehow, Frederica Brignone, probably more accustomed to skiing a tracked out course, decimated the field on the last run. She also knows that pitch given the home country advantage.

To be clear, in normal FIS events, the entrants with the top 10 points have a random draw for spots 1-10, everyone else’s start position is based on points.
