I live in Wellington NZ and it never really rains much. Until last two days. My place is slightly elevated but other people's houses got flooded.
Hot moist air from the tropics routed down in a straight line to Wellington then hits cooler air, boof, rain.
Funny thing is GF was annoyed because I didn't want to go to the cafe at a particular garden centre. Exactly the time we would have been there the rain hit and flooded the place and the car park. Water level was enogh to go through the doors of cars
