I've known I'm ancient for some time, but the realization really hits when I look in a mirror. When I turned 80 a few years ago, I thought I was doing pretty well, since I could get out and do what I've been doing for decades mostly all day long. But in the last few years I've slowed down quite a lot. Old age seems to be the reverse of development as a young person, only faster in the opposite direction once you hit a certain point. Mostly I realized ancient crept up on me when I had to start taking a break (or stop) after working only a couple of hours.
