Unclebilly, one time which did give me pause: we had spent a couple of nights on the Isle of Aran and were taking the ferry from the north of the island to the Kintire peninsula. The wind was coming up as a hurricane was approaching and as we approached the ferry slip, the deck hand came to our car (we were the only vehicle aboard) and asked ,"The Captain wants to know if you can back off." His broad Scots speech and the off the wall question took me by surprise so i had to ask him to repeat it. It seems the wind direction meant if the vessel was turned, the smoke from the stack would blow into the wheel house. I told him I could, then faced my next challenge. Leaving the ferry, there would be oncoming vehicles to the right, but since I was reversing, they would be on my left, which meant I had to keep to my right. But not too far, because there were no guard rails on that side. Obviously we made it.
