Got my first car the day I turned 16. 1968 Firebird with 99,000 miles with the OHC 4.1L straight six and 3-spd column shift. My parents' mechanic recommended it from one of their customers. Bought it for $1,100 in 1972.

I started looking for a 4-spd to swap in and found one for $125. For $75 more, I could have the 400ci engine as well. It turned out to be the 389ci, but no matter. Fearless teenager I was, I put it in the car in my parents' garage. Promptly blew up after leaking too much oil. Rebuilt it in my parents' garage and it ran well for a year or so until I went on a 500 mile trip to look at a college and blew it up again on the way home spinning 7,000 rpm... I learned a lot about working on cars with that one!
