You can never be sure how a guy like that is thinking. He could very well think it's hot S. At not a lot more than the current price if might be a good buy AFA the drive train and suspension goes, if a hot rod is your destination.
Ripping a bunch of the bodywork off in favor of stock body front and rear (for the most part) and painting it, might come out a LOT cheaper than starting from scratch.
Then there's the crowd that likes to take a '55 style body and fit it over a C2 or newer chassis. The one guy that I know that did this ended up buying new front and rear frame clips to achieve his dream. He also sold shortly after it was finished.
Maybe you're right, they ended up saying, "What have I done?"
