It is 94 with a heat index of 104 here in Opelika. It's not so bad if you stay in the shade. I grew up on the Florida panhandle coastline and most of the time there was a bit of a breeze coming in off the gulf that made it not seem so hot. It has been strange weather this week with not only the heat, but we have had pop up thunderstorms that are moving from east to west, which normally then move in from the west. Some storms have been pretty severe with 40mph+ winds. So far, no storms here, just heat!!!

Our summer heat index generally runs 100-115º. The other day, I saw several days for us that were forecast to have a heat index of 110-115.

I lived in P'cola for several years when I was younger, and my parents retired to Milton (just east of P'cola). I lived in Tampa for many years when I was younger. My mom lived her last 15-ish years in Vero Beach. The breeze off of the Atlantic was MUCH nicer than the breezes off/near the Gulf.

This has been a weird year for weather. I think our temps here in TX so far this summer have been quite a bit cooler than any of the last several years (by 15-20º). We've had good rain too (the trade off is humidity). And then I hear about my colleagues up in the NYC/NJ area having temps in the high 90s and 100+, and high temps in London (higher than here in Texas). I had heard early this year that we had switched from la niña to el niño this year, and the weather is certainly different from the last several years.
