Our well has run dry. In the middle of a heat wave. I hate this place.
We went over to our old neighborhood to help Daniel, our ex-neighbor, a couple of days ago. I didn’t realize how much help we were to him until after we left. I thought I was just being neighborly. He now says he doesn’t think he can stay in his home without our help. He is pretty feeble.
Also, he’s the county gossip, so we got to find out what’s going on.
The story of the people who bought our house is bizarre beyond comprehension. They bought it in November 2025. One of the reasons they wanted it is that it is set up for a multi-generational home, and they wanted a place for Granny. They didn’t move in until March, and on the way to their new home - Granny died. I mean in the car on the way. They went back to New England where Granny was from to take care of her affairs and haven’t been back for more than a few days since. They pay some guy $200 a week to mow the acreage. And mow he does. All of the flower beds, the wildflower garden, the vegetable garden – everything is shaved like Joe Rogan’s head. A friend drives over from Dayton (40 miles) every other day to put food out for the cats. We knew their children were autistic. Daniel says the entire family is on the spectrum. I do recall, when I tried to show the father around the place and how to take care of it, it seemed he wasn’t connecting. Daniel said the wife told him they have to have someone to do the mowing because the dad “isn’t mechanical.”
That place is high maintenance. Either you do it yourself, or you pay for it. I hope they're rich.
