When I was looking for my first house back in 1979 I told the real estate agent one absolute requirement was a garage. The very first house they took me to had the garage converted to living space. They got out and walked toward the house and I sat in the car. They asked what's wrong and I said it is obvious there is no garage, I am not interested in this place. They finally understood, it was a absolute requirement to have a garage.
The finally found my old bachelor pad house. It was built in the 1950s, but every previous owner had been a Mr. Fix it. It had central heat and air conditioning, all new copper plumbing and a two car wide driveway.
It was a great little house but I sold it after I got married and we dumped that money and the sale of my wife's house into a down payment and large chunk towards the mortgage of this house.
