Our long haired dachshund, on the right, named Reese died last night. She was a few months shy of 16 years old. We found her in the hall unresponsive at about 12:30 AM. We rushed to the local emergency vet that is open 24/7 and the vet said she was dead. Either a stroke, or the vets thinks it might have been a stomach inversion.
Reese did go in and out of the doggy door a lot of time last night.
Reuben, on the left is 13 and has had Reese as a companion literately all his life. When he just opened his eyes, she would come over and play with him according to the breeder where we got both dogs from. They were best friends for sure.
Reese was deaf, and had a torn retina and a ulcer on her right retina, so we gave her two drops eye drops per day and she had a narrowed throat and she coughed a lot and was on medication for that as well.
We are donating the unused medicine to the dog ophthalmologist that was treating her. They will not buy the meds back, but give them to someone that can't afford the expensive drops.
She will be missed.
