In most cases, yes. For those of us with proven intelligence, however, it behooves us to have as many children as we can possibly support.
For no other reason than to keep the gene pool from getting so shallow that it dries up!
Unfortunately the people with any brains are the ones most concerned about "screwing up" when they raise kids, and stop after one or two (if they have any at all).
