Rick -- absolutely! As a kid, I was in an Aviation Explorers group and we were choplifted from Hancock AFB - 174th TFW "Boys From Syracuse" - to watch said Boys on gunnery and missile practice at Fort Drum. Holy. Crap. That cannon produces a unique and spinechilling sound, followed by an amazing "jink" maneuver to get the hell out of there. I watched "lob-toss" practice from the observation/scoring tower -- that was freaking cool too.
I love the Warthogs. Unfortunately, the 174th was one of the first ANG wings to get the F-16A2s; it was a sad day for me to watch the last A-10s fly out of Hancock into history.
Wonder how much Uncle Sam wants for one?
