I only own two Remington rifles. My M700 in 7mm Remington Magnum was made, according to this data, in July of 1971. That fits with its known history, I bought it in the mid 1980's from the son of the guy who bought it new. This is the classic, definitive M700 that made its reputation. It's a BDL variant, the fancier of the then available (the other model, the ADL, had a far more mundane stock, lesser metal finish, and all of that). Introduced along with the 7mm Remington Magnum chambering in the early 1960's, the combination made quite a splash and became an instant hit. This remains one of the most accurate hunting rifles I have ever owned.
My other Remington is a decidedly different rifle. Remington didn't keep very good records when it was made, so it is impossible to date it. Probably late 1880's to early 1890's. It's a #3 Hepburn, chambered in .45-90 (aka .45-2.4"). This one has a pristine bore and shoots very, very well with black powder and cast bullets of 400-500 grains. I've taken a number of deer with it since I acquired it from a friend's father's estate in the mid 1990's.
So, those are my two Remingtons. Only having two, I guess that means that I have never really been drawn to them. I like my Model 70 and Model 98 bolt guns with their claw extractors, fixed ejectors, and controlled round feeding. I like my Sharps, Ballard, and Winchester single shots. But, well, these two have earned their keep and aren't going anywhere.
