Coins, like many antiques took a big hit in prices when the internet became mainstream. Ebay changed everything. Coins that were thought to be rare, flooded the market and the values dropped.
I have a lot of silver coins, from nickles, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and silver dollars. Unless it is in near uncirculated or actual uncirculated or proof, most all of them are just melt value.
Millions of people saved wheat pennies, and they are worth on cent each for the most part unless it is a 1909 S VDB or some other rare one.
I have several old Roman era coins. I figured they were super rare and maybe valuable. Nope, 20 to 40 bucks at best.
