As executor of my mom's estate, We had to sell my father's coins and split with my siblings. Which sucked, as the sentimental value to me was greater than their worth. He had obviously purchased proof sets in the years his grand-children were born, kids married, etc. All sold and the value split.
We ended up bringing them to 3 local dealers for appraisal, went with the best quote. Other than silver, basically all of the coins that were circulated went in a coin counter and we received face value.
He had a few chinese coins he picked up in the Navy, that I bought back from the dealer, and got a raft of sheet from my 2 sisters for that.
