I have a 103 P/C kit from Mahle waiting to be built in. They are said to be of great quality.
The problem is that german engine builders do not recommend the 103 bore when using the original fan shroud, only when using a 911 type shroud.
That's why I am hesitating and looking for alternatives. Are KBs forged pistons? What about cast pistons, would you recommend using them?
Another problem of course is the custom duties involved with the importation of parts from the US. That's why many stick to the available parts. That means not changing cranks unless you want a 26xx engine. this is the real reason for the popularity of the 103x71 setup.
What do you understand by "extensive modification" of the heads?
