On the 30% failure rate? Almost certainly a ploy to reduce HIS work load. I had a computer science prof my Freshman year that said all Juniors should consider dropping. All Sophomores mandatory drop and didn't even discuss Freshman. I was a Freshman. I took the class. Did just fine. He was an a55.
