His "currency" with me is good grades in school, and working on his Eagle Scout. His sister did the same thing, with grades and the Girl Scout "Gold" award which is equivalent to the Eagle. She pays for the gas and regular maintenance. My daughter has a part time job (she's 17) and she landed a job at a very well known accounting firm in downtown LA. I convinced her that it would look better on her resume' than a "Would you like fries with that?" job. I'll make my son do the same with a part-time job, but I want school to be the focus of his young life, not working to pay for an old car.
