Enduring Lust Value Gone with the 993's?

I was aimlessly cruising in the carrera yesterday afternoon and ended up in the vicinity of a couple of high schools about the time class was letting out. (keep your smart remarks to yourself, gunga din.)

I've noticed this before - but I was blown away by the extent of the drooling over the carrera by these teenagers! The "nice ride" kinda catcalls were plentiful - from boys and girls alike.

993's - even the TT (and 996's I assume - I'm a little short on those right now) simply don't seem to have the same wow factor with the teenage crowd. Boxsters don't even draw a glance. I also assume that 964's would be treated like a carrera or any older 911.

As I got thinking about this, it struck me that this is pretty amazing. This means that teenagers today are lusting after the same car that I lusted after 25 or more years ago! What other marque or model has that kinda lasting lust-value across multiple generations?

This phenomena also suggests to me that the pre-993 cars (I'm waiting for confirmation about 964's) will probably hold better "investment value" than their successors. Think about it - we now have two generations behind us that are equally smitten (or thereabouts) with 911's as we were and will always have a 911 somewhere on their "wish list".

993's, 6's, 7's, boxsters, hummers, et al will come and go as flavor-of-the-month, 911's will endure.
