It's more like just a mess, created by us. We have to allow our military to take whatever actions neccesary to gain control and order, plus end the insurgency that is costing so many lives, but there are always two wars going on in war. Winning the fighting part is easier than the "hearts and minds" part that we must win if we ever want to leave that god-awful place, and when an occupying army is applying heavy violence against an occupied people, (no matter how neccesary at the moment), it does not look good to the people that we need some slack from.
Did you read the rest of "The Onion"? The non-political stories are also hilarious, IMO.
