I was once "slandered". Local paper printed an article mentioning me. They put in print some things that were simply not true in any way shape or form.

Was so pissed I went straight to my lawyer to sue.

Lawyer told me that in addition to proving they got the facts wrong that I'd have to prove that it hurt my reputation AND that I had lost income as a result of it.

Besides, if this guy is truly to lazy to get the work done I highly doubt he'd have the motivation to sue, especially since you are telling the truth and have a canceled check to prove it.

Go see your lawyer.
