dmoolenaar - My next daily driver may be a WRX depends on what gas prices are doing when I buy and the type of mileage they get.
My 911 can't haul much sits 3 people comfortably for now (my son is 14 months) and is a pig when it comes to gas (15 to 18 mpg). The catch though is I drive less than 5000 miles a year. It is a total weekend toy. My daily driver is a 2000 VW Jetta TDI. It sees 35,000 or so miles a year
Comfortable car with 98% of the bells and whistles. Not as fast as my 911 but very quick (chipped) and best of all it seats 4 (back could use a little more leg room) has a huge trunk and it get 50 mpg
While I despise minivans I would never own a SUV. My wife's Outback can haul everything we need and if it doesn't fit in the car I can tow it on a trailer. That car has AWD (damn good system by the way) and get 28 mpg.
So keep your 10 mpg pigs and when gas prices eek up to $3.00 a gallon I will laugh. My 911 won't see as much action but I won't be getting bent over at the pump on a weekly basis.
