Not entirely related, but I read that the original negatives of the entire JFK-era Presidential Archive (internal White House candid photography) were stored in the Chase Manhattan vaults beneath the WTC. The daughter of the (late) official photographer had plans to archive it all on the internet. I think there were plenty of Nixon-era photos in there, too.
Something like 40,000 photographs and negatives were lost.
