I agree, and sorry if my initial response seemed harsh. I do however believe government should be doing these things too. In speaking with people about the issues at hand, I hear again and again we shouldn't rely on government. I always answer with YOU ARE the government, or you should be. Government was originally intended to be members of our midst elected to act on behalf of all of us for the common good. That people no longer regard the government as representing them is a sad statement. It has taken on a life of it's own, and too often acts on behalf of it's members, and the ultra rich rather than those they are supposed to represent.
But....we do indeed have the power, and we do indeed need to exercise same in the form of our votes and writing our elected leaders. They need to be told to act on behalf of the majority who work for a living, and not on behalf of rich corporations seeking offshore tax breaks, among other things.
